Chess Scott
Chess is curious about the person first, not the diagnosis or the crisis that brought them in. His own experience navigating hardship, transition, and rebuilding means the empathy he carries into sessions is real, and his practical, collaborative approach keeps the work focused on actual change in everyday life.
Understanding struggle from the inside out
Having navigated PTSD, depression, and family experiences with ADHD and substance use, Chess brings both empathy and lived experience to his practice. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force and an entrepreneur, he has faced the challenges of discipline, transition, and resilience firsthand. Chess is curious about the person first, not the diagnosis or the crisis that brought them in. He saw a need for mental health care that was both practical and approachable, and he felt uniquely suited to build it. At The Shift, Chess works with individuals seeking self-awareness, healing, and personal growth. His approach is person-centered and collaborative, helping clients feel understood, supported, and empowered.

Built for founders and high achievers, too
Chess has run his own businesses and knows what it's like to carry the weight of being the one everyone else depends on. That background shapes how he works with entrepreneurs, business owners, and other high-achieving clients who need a space where the usual performance doesn't have to hold up. As the founder of The Shift, Chess is also the one who does most of the matching. Booking a consultation with him doesn't lock you into working with him. Part of his job is making sure you end up with the right counselor for you, whether that's Chess or someone else on the team.
